Hi, I’m Caitlin Younis!
My obsession with the ocean started early. I grew up exploring the rock pools scattered along the Victorian coastline and have been diving since I was 12 years old. But despite that early connection, my path to becoming a coral researcher was anything but a straight line. I took a massive detour. For a decade, my world consisted of cables, multi blend projection, soundboards, and lighting rigs as I built a career in the AV industry. Eventually, the pull of the ocean won out.

My name is Kathryn!
I’m a coral nerd originally from the United States. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to be a marine biologist, despite coming from a family that definitely weren’t “water people.” I spent my childhood splashing around in the ocean searching for sea cucumbers, eels, baby sharks, seashells… everything. Like many aspiring marine biologists, I was convinced I’d grow up to study dolphins. In reality, I didn’t discover what kind of scientist I wanted to be until university.
